DIY Jewelry Upcycle

When I found out that I was pregnant with a girl, I was really excited. My mind went into instant “Must Bedazzle Everything” mode and honestly, I haven’t blinged out as much as I really could. Now that she’s almost 2, I credit my lack of everything towards having a rambunctious, active, very healthy toddler.

Since I do a lot of thrifting, I always try to spot the deals on jewelry pieces. I mostly seek costume jewelry that has little to no value. Sometimes my local thrift store will even have bags of broken jewelry for super super cheap. I assume that most customers think, “Why would someone want a bag full of broken jewelry?”. Well, because crafts, thats why.

The blingier, the better, in my opinion. I love browsing Pinterest for DIY projects with broken bits of jewels. It’s a great feeling to create something beautiful from something that most people would consider as trash.

As you probably know, letter initials are a fad right now for every kids’ room. You can find unfinished wood, white, black, or colored initials at almost every craft store. I chose a cursive L in unfinished wood, since I knew that I would be covering it in gems.

All I needed for my “Blinged Out” L were three different items:

  • Wooden Initial
  • Jewelry rhinestones, beads, buttons, etc.
  • Mod Podge (also available at probably every craft store ever)

Now, onto my next thing to bling….
