How to Make Fondant Icing

One of my favorite shows to watch is Cake Wars and I am always amazed by what the contestants can do with fondant. They make it look so easy and delicious, so it inspired me to try it out myself.

Since I had no idea on the first steps in making fondant (I didn’t even know it was made with marshmallows!), I did a quick Google search and found this to be one of the most popular recipes for DIY fondant: Rhonda’s Ultimate MMF.

I followed it step-by-step and didn’t have any problems. I’m not going to lie, it did take a bit of time to get the fondant at the exact texture that I was looking for but it wasn’t too time-consuming. Plus, it tastes a lot better than store-bought fondant, hands down.

I also used Wilton Gel Fondant Coloring and made it a pretty ice blue color. That definitely took some time to get the color worked into the fondant evenly. I read that you always want to use gel coloring with fondant and NOT liquid (FYI). I am not sure why exactly but I will take the internet’s advice on that one.

Oh, and it makes a mess. 🙂
